After the close today, the New York Stock Exchange released short interest levels for the month of May, and as the chart below shows, short interest surged by 7% to a new all time high. While the record level of short interest is not a new story, this month was somewhat unique in that it was the tenth largest monthly increase in short interest over the last 16 years. Also notable is the fact that in the last three months, we have seen two monthly increases that qualify in the top ten overall (March 2007). It is hard to imagine that investors are overly bullish with short interest hitting record highs month after month.

nemá na to zásluhu aj to, že sa v poslednom čase viac hedguje ako pred tým?
Že by to neboli len shorty so zámerom zarobiť na poklese, ale aj zaisťovanie long pozícií v štrukturovaných produktoch, hedge fondoch a podobne.
Povedem, že v 90tych neboli hedge fondy také obľúbené a certifikáty neexistovali, alebo neboli rozšírené. Rovnako ak zaistené fondy.
Ja tak či tak ten rekord beriem ako varovný signál pre trh ako celok.

no short interest je vysoko uz dost dlho a moze to sposobit presny opak - short squeeze a pojdeme este vyssie...

Během recese??
Jinak ale k recesi zatím není žádnej důvod. Maximálně se zpomaluje růst. Negativně teď v Améru působí nemovitosti a hypotéky, ale stačí, aby se začly snižovat sazby a je to zase fšecko o něčem jiným.
Teď podle mýho dochází k naprosto běžné a pochopitelné korekci poté, co skoro všechny indexy dosáhly svých maxim. Netřeba sýčkovat.

Komodity beru - ale ne přímo futures nebo něco podobného.
Poklady se podle mne nachází mezi junior exploration společnostmi.

The U.S. economy rebounded in the second quarter as the drag from the housing sector lessened, businesses built inventories and exports
grew, the Commerce Department said. Gross domestic product rose at a 3.4% annual rate, resurging from its downwardly revised 0.6% advance
during the first quarter. But consumer spending, the biggest component of GDP, slowed sharply. Headline inflation accelerated, but the
gauge excluding food and energy eased.
